Typical Garage Door and Opener problems

Broken Spring(s)

 

Symptoms:

  • The door only opens a little way.
  • The motor is struggling.
  • The door is extremely heavy.
  • Both cables are loose or appear broken

 

Solutions:

  • The spring must be replaced
  • Contact us to schedule an appointment

 

Broken or Loose Cable(s)

Symptoms:

  • The door is crooked.
  • The door won’t open or close.
  • The door closed on an object.
  • There is a wire (Cable) hanging loose on one side

Solutions:

  • The cable must be reattached or replaced
  • Contact us to schedule an appointment

Damaged Panels

 

Symptoms:

  • The door is having trouble closing.
  • The door is bowed or buckled.
  • The door has been hit by a car.

 

Solutions:

  • Panel(s) can be replaced
  • Door can be replaced

Roller Issues

 

Symptoms:

  • The door is having trouble opening and closing.
  • The door appears to have a tracking problem. 
  • The door is stuck up or down.
  • Ball Bearings were found on the floor.

 

Solutions:

  • Rollers should lubricated every year
  • Rollers should be replaced

Pulley Issues

 

Symptoms:

  • The door is having trouble opening and closing.
  • The door appears to have a tracking problem. 
  • The door is stuck up or down.
  • Ball Bearings were found on the floor.

 

Solutions:

  • Pulleys should lubricated every year
  • Pulleys should be replaced

Opener traveler released

 

 

Symptoms:

  • The motor runs, but the door won’t open or close.
  • We had to use the door by hand after a power outage.
  • The red rope was pulled or hung up on vehicle.

 

Solutions:

  • Traveler lever should be in up position to engage onto trolly
  • Travelers can wear out or break and can be replaced

Safety sensors

 

Symptoms:

  • The door won’t close at all.
  • The door won’t close then reverses.
  • The main light is blinking or I hear a clicking sound.
  • I have to hold the wall button to close the door.
  • It will not close with the remote.

 

Solutions:

  • Check that the sensors are aligned with each other
  • Most sensors should have a solid LED light
  • Broken wires can also cause them to not work.

Circuit board issues

 

Symptoms:

  • There is power going to the plug, but non-working.
  • The door won’t work from the wall button or remotes.
  • The door is going up and down by its self.
  • The door will not open or close with the motor.

 

Solutions:

  • Replace the Circuit board

Gear problems

 

Symptoms:

  • The motor runs, but the chain does not move.
  • The door won’t open when button is pressed.
  • Motor is making a grinding noise

 

Solutions:

  • Replace the gear

Sprocket problems

 

Symptoms:

  • The chain is loose.
  • The chain fell off or appears to be broken.
  • Motor is making a grinding noise

 

Solutions:

  • Replace the gear & sprocket assembly

Remote controls (Transmitters)

Symptoms:

  • The door won’t work from the remotes.
  • The door is going up and down by its self
  • The remote has to be very close to work

Solutions:

  • Replace the battery(s)
  • Re-program the remotes
  • Replace the remote

Keypad (Keyless Entry)

Symptoms:

  • The door won’t work from the keypad.

Solutions:

  • Replace the battery(s)
  • Re-program the keypad
  • Replace the keypad
